About Shillong
Weather will be relatively cold as winters start setting in from November after which the weather can be quite cold with the minimum temperature going as low as 2°C. Make sure you carry enough woolens, especially for the evenings that can get very cold. The shillong city is famous for its various places of tourist attractions, viz, Shillong Peak,Elephant Falls, Butterfly Museum, Wards Lake, Barapani Lake, Polo Ground. Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani (Big Water) is located 3km from NESAC and around 15 Km from Shillong where a massive hydro-electric dam has been constructed across the Umiam river stream. The Lake is popular for the Water Sport and adventure facilities that it offers. Kayaking, Water cycling/ scooting and boating are a few of the facilities available at the Umiam Lake. The Lake has been developed as a tourist spot by the State authorities and the Meghalaya Tourism Department, runs the Orchid Tourist home overlooking the lake.
